Apple Maps Redesign Expands to Finland, Norway, and Sweden

Apple today announced that its revamped Maps app is rolling out in Finland, Norway, and Sweden.

Apple Maps update finland sweden
The new experience provides more detail, improved navigation, custom-designed 3D models of popular landmarks, immersive turn-by-turn walking directions powered by augmented reality, and more.

Look Around, which was first introduced in iOS 13, is also expanding to all of these countries starting today. Look Around provides 3D street-level imagery in cities where it is available, and it is similar to Google's Street View.

Apple users in the above countries received notifications of the rollout this morning, and Apple Maps expert Justin O'Beirne also catalogued the expansion.

This is the seventeenth time that Apple has expanded its new map data since its public launch in September 2018. It has since expanded to the U.K., Ireland, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, France, Germany, and select other countries and territories.

I love how Apple Maps is mocked by influencers of all kind while being consistently better than Google by leaps and bounds (in my area, Northern Italy).

Google sucks, plain wrong sometimes & I dislike their UI.
I also prefer AM but it’s not leaps and bounds better. AM still is horrible at search and business listings are still outdated. If you don’t know the exact address, Google Maps is vastly superior.

Here Apple Maps can be used for navigation only, but Google Maps itself is a complete ecosystem especially for its ranking system for locations.

Ok ”look around” looks actually pretty decent, it’s much better in morphing between photos than street view. Probably some new machine learning model.

Maybe apple maps is becoming useful, the amount of data (restaurants, up to date streets) has been simply inferior before!

Denmark have way more iOS market share then all other Europe countries (Monaco and Liechtenstein have more) and more people than Finland and Norway. And almost 10% higher market share compared to Sweden.

But okay we will wait.
